Remember ten days ago when the head of the National Rifle Association suggested that the best cure for violence of the sort that occured in Newtown Connecticut was to have armed personnel in schools? The response in the media was immediate outrage. How dare the NRA actually call for introducing arms into schools! The NRA had lost its mind, we were told.
Well, now comes the opinion of the public. In a national poll by Rasmussen, by a margin of 54 to 26 percent, Americans feel that children would be safer attending a school where there were armed personnel compared to attending a school where weapons were banned. When only parents of school aged childred were included in the sample, the margin grew to 62 to 22%.
If you were wondering why president Obama went for appointing a commission headed by Biden rather than for some new gun control effort, this poll should tell you the reason.
