There's a bunch of interesting news items and columns today that are worth mentioning:
1. At the Washington Post, Dana Milbank proclaims John McCain the greatest political leader of our time. Milbank even says that he almost (remember "almost") worked for McCain in 2000. I'm not going to repeat the rest of the hymn of praise that Milbank sings about McCain. I just think it is worth mentioning one point in response. In 2008, Milbank strongly supported Obama over McCain. The man who Milbank claims to have almost worked for in 2000 just wasn't good enough to support eight years later, but now he is once again wonderful. The reality is that Milbank wants to use McCain to bash President Trump. As someone who actually supported McCain in 2008, let me quickly say that Milbank's conduct is shameful.
2. Sheldon Silver who was the long-time leader of the NY Assembly was once again convicted by a jury in New York on corruption charges. Silver was previously convicted, but that was overturned on appeal and a re-trial was held. Hopefully, this will end the matter. This guy should be in jail.
3. The special prosecutor, Robert Mueller is now said to be probing contributions made to the Trump Inaugural Committee. Really? Is he kidding? It's one thing to probe a supposed connection between Russia and the Trump campaign, but the Inaugural? That was long after the election. Contributions are not subject to Election Finance laws. This is just a total waste of time. Of course, the entire Mueller probe has been a waste of time, so why should this be different.
