The Real News Of the Evening

About three times tonight, I checked in with MSNBC and CNN to see what they were covering.  Each time, there was a panel discussion (with different panels) about supposed payments to Michael Cohen by some large US corporations like AT&T and by one company that is said by the lawyer for Stormy Daniels to be owned by a Russian oligarch.  I didn't watch for long, although during the time I did, no one mentioned that it has been discovered that more than half of the bank records released by Daniel's lawyer that supposedly show money transfers by President Trump's lawyer Michael Cohen have turned out to be the records of another Michael Cohen of New York.  In other words, those records had nothing to do with the President or his lawyer.  Also, I heard no mention that the spokesman for the company supposedly owned by the Russian oligarch had issued a statement saying that the company was owned by Americans and had no ties of any sort, direct or indirect, to the Russian oligarch.  The coverage instead was more like a cheering section for Daniels' lawyer and his erroneous and baseless allegations.

I mention what I saw because there is some truly important news tonight.  First, Secretary of State Pompeo will be landing shortly on his return trip from North Korea after meeting with Kim Jung Un.  Pompeo is bringing home with him the three Americans who have been held hostage by the North Koreans for years.  These are three people who president Obama left to rot in North Korean jails.

Second, there has been a major escalation in the confrontation in the Middle East between Israel and Iran.  The Iranian forces in Syria launched about 20 missiles toward Israeli positions in the Golan Heights, the area immediately adjacent to the border between Syria and Israel.  An Israel spokesman said that the Iron Dome Israeli anti-missile system had shot down some of the missiles and there was no real damage done by the others.  He further said that there were no Israeli casualties from the attack.  It makes sense that Iron Dome would only shoot down some of the missiles; the system only shoots at incoming missiles whose path aims them at populated areas.

In response to the Iranian missile attack, the Israelis retaliated with their own salvo of missiles and artillery.  Syrian TV showed Israeli missiles coming in over Damascus, but there is no way to tell where exactly the Israelis struck in retaliation as of now.  There are reports of people in Damascus hearing explosions from the outskirts of the city.  Most likely, those are bases for either Iranian or Hezbollah troops.

Third, the Iranians reacted today to President Trump's decision to pull out of the JCPOA.  The Supreme Leader in Iran actually announced that President Trump's rotting corpse would be decomposing while the Islamic Republic continued on strong.  What a charming fellow he is.

There were also points made by Democrat senators like Chuck Schumer and Robert Menendez in response to Trump's withdrawal from the Iran agreement.  I mention Schumer and Menendez because they both strongly opposed the JCPOA as a bad deal when it was proposed by president Obama.  Menendez even blamed his prosecution for corruption on Obama's being angry at him for opposing the Iran deal.  Normally, one would think that both senators would be glad to see the USA pull out of the defective deal.  WRONG!  Both Schumer and Menendez criticized President Trump for doing exactly what both of them had said was required when the deal was first considered.  What hypocrites!

There's even more news, but I don't want to keep you from hearing the latest from Stormy Daniels' attorney.  After all, what peace in Korea or war in the Middle East when we can hear discussion of lies by Stormy's attorney?
