The FBI Informant in the Trump Campaign

The Wall Street Journal and Rush Limbaugh both are discussing the revelation that the FBI had a long time intelligence source (for both FBI and CIA) planted inside the Trump campaign in 2016.  This news is something that makes the likelihood of collusion between Russia and Trump even less than previously thought.  After all, as Limbaugh pointed out today, if there was an informant inside the campaign and if after nearly two years of looking the FBI and Mueller still have no evidence of collusion, then there really cannot be any.

More important, however, are two questions:

1.  What the hell is the FBI doing putting an informant inside the campaign of one of the two major party candidates?

2.  Who is the person that the FBI used in this role?

It is outrageous to think that absent any evidence of collusion with a foreign power, the FBI would plant a spy in the Trump campaign.  I have to assume that this is a move of such importance that it was told to and approved by then president Obama.  How could he do this?  It sounds a lot like something that Richard Nixon would be accused of.  Simply put, it's unforgiveable.

As for the most likely person to be the informant, it seems to me (without my having any proof of this at all) that the person is Carter Page.  That's right, the same Carter Page who was the subject of the FISA warrant based upon the Trump Dossier.  We know that Page had been involved with the FBI and the CIA in the past.  What better way to get an ear on the Trump people than to get a wiretap on the FBI agent himself who can then call various campaign people and be "shocked" should the wiretap ever be made public.

Sure, it could easily be someone else.  I know that.  There's no proof that it's Page.  Still, it's an intriguing idea.
