A Prediction About The Democrats' Tactics

There's likely going to be a vote this week about continuing US involvement in connection with the civil war in Yemen.  That war has many sides, but the principal warring factions are the Houthis (a Shiite group supported by Iran) against Sunni opponents (a group that includes the remnants of the last elected Yemeni government and other rebels with support from Saudi Arabia.)  Senators like Connecticut's Chris Murphy have been denouncing American support for the Saudis and our tangential involvement in the civil war for years now.  The killing of Kashoggi by Saudi agents has now led to the vote calling for American withdrawal from any involvement related to Yemen.  It's unclear if the vote will pass, but if it does, I predict that either some Democrat senators will go to federal court (almost certainly in California or Hawaii) seeking an order enjoining any further US involvement in supplying arms to the Saudis or otherwise in connection with the civil war in Yemen.  Such a suit would be a clear loser in a court that followed the requirements of the law.  After all, a senate action is meaningless absent agreement by the House and the signature of the President.  The argument, however, will likely be that the resolution rescinds previous approval or authorization given by the Senate for our military actions in connection with Yemen.  A liberal activist judge will grant that injunction and it will be upheld by the 9th circuit.  It will take Supreme Court action to put things right.
