Reservations about Warren -- 2

The news keeps getting worse for Elizabeth Warren, the Democrat running in Massachusetts against senator Scott Brown. Yesterday, the issue was whether or not she used her claimed "minority" status to advance her career. Harvard had touted Warren as a "minority hire" on the basis of Warren's claim to be Native American. Of course, when questioned about this, Warren disclosed that she is one - thirty second part Cherokee. In other words, Warren's great-great-great grandmother is supposed to be Cherokee. Many Massachusetts voters may well find it offensive that Warren was claiming to be a minority in order to jump to the head of the line. Now comes word that Warren may not even have been telling the truth. The New England Historic Genealogical Society did a search and was unable to find anything that confirmed that Warren's ancestor was Cherokee. Warren claims that there is a marriage certificate that shows this background, but the Genealogical Society found a copy of the actual marriage license from 118 years ago, and it does not mention anything about Cherokee or other background. Warren's claim to being a Cherokee (okay, a one- thirty second Cherokee) is looking weaker by the minute. Not only was she trying to take advantage based upon an obviously unknown "racial difference", she may well have also been making up the claim. The Warren camp is in a total panic at the moment. Yesterday, they tried to turn the tables on Brown by making a big deal over the fact that Brown's daughter is still on his health insurance at age 24 even though he wants to repeal Obamacare. Of course, Brown is on record as having said that on repeal of Obamacare there are two provisions that he believes should be kept. One of these is for children to be able to stay on insurance of their parents until age 26. The big Warren issue is hardly an issue at all. Indeed, there is nothing wrong with following the existing law while advocating for a change. It would be like someone who advocates for abolition of drivers' licenses getting one in order to drive at the present time. The unraveling story of Warren's Cherokee "background" and the desperate attack on Brown are clear indications that Warren's campaign is in total meltdown. She may recover, but it is looking more and more like Brown may actually win re-election in Massachusetts.
