The Secretary General of the UN says that the cease fire plan in Syria is "on course". Fifty of the three hundred UN Observer force are now in the country. Here is what they are seeing.
1) On Thursday government security forces and students wielding knives attacked anti-Assad protesters at the university in Aleppo, killing four and detaining 200.
2) Yesterday, three bombs exploded around the country. One was in a car wash in Aleppo and two were on highways in the Damascus area. There are conflicting reports, but somewhere between 7 and 15 were killed.
3) The other day, the Iranian cultural consulate in Damascus was attacked. Iran is the main supporter of the Assad regime. Casualties, if any, in this attack have been kept secret.
4) Around the country, demonstrations held after prayers on Friday were attacked by Assad forces. Again, there are no reliable reports regarding casualties.
Just imagine what things would be like if the UN ceasefire plan were not "on course".
One last note: president Obama has gone back to spending his time on weightier matters than the slaughter of thousands in Syria. Obama's main focus has been the raising of funds for his re-election effort and the "kick off" of the campaign.
It is actually amusing that Obama is holding that campaign kickoff this weekend. Is there anyone in the country who does not realize that Obama has been campaigning non-stop for the last year?
