Maybe It Really Is Time for an Apology

In the last few days, there have been calls for all sorts of apologies in connection with the presidential race. Most of them have been silly at best. They are the usual stuff of politics. One recent statement by vice president Biden, however, strikes me as different. Speaking at an event about American policy regarding Iran, Biden said this:

: "When we took office, let me remind you, there was virtually no international pressure on Iran. We were the problem. We were diplomatically isolated in the world, in the region, in Europe."

Let me repeat the key phrase: "We were the problem." That's right the vice president thinks that it was America's fault that Iran was seeking nuclear weapons. It was America's fault that Iran was spreading terrorism around the world. It was America's fault that Iran was sending weapons to the Taliban in Afghanistan to kill Americans. It was America's fault that Iran was funding and arming Hezbollah and Hamas. It was America's fault that Iran was giving sanctuary to part of the leadership of al Qaeda.

It is not enough to say that Joe Biden is an idiot. The whole world already knows that. The man who used to be known as the "dumbest man in the senate" has not suddenly gained wisdom now that he is vice president. But stupidity is not excuse. The vice president of the United States, the faithful sidekick to Obama, has announced that all these terrible actions by Iran were really America's fault.

The American people deserve an apology. Remember, Biden is not misspeaking here. There has been no clarification issued like is usually done after Biden puts his foot in it. No one is telling us that Biden was misunderstood. No, Biden spoke for Obama when he blamed America for the conduct of Iran. Biden and Obama are wrong. Indeed, Biden and Obama should know better. That they do not understand this shows clearly why these folks have to be voted out of office.
