The Swift boating of Obama?

In the last two days, a video produced by a group called Veterans for a Strong America has been sweeping the web. I strongly suggest that you watch it. It takes president Obama to task for "spiking the football" for the killing of bin Laden. Specifically, the video points out how when Obama talks about the bin Laden raid, he talks only about what he did. Even when his campaign put out an ad trying to boost his chances by pointing to the bin Laden raid, Obama pointed out how bad it would have been for him if the raid had failed. Obama was not concerned how bad it would have been for the navy seals team if things went south, just how bad it would have been for Obama himself. In essence, the video uses Obama's own words to point out how he is claiming credit for himself and his political needs rather than honoring the men who actually risked their lives to take out bin Laden. It is a powerful video.

I had decided not to write about the video until I saw the beginning of the counter attack from the libs. The articles are starting already how this is the "swiftboating" of Obama. Translating that into English, the left is saying that this is an untrue attack on Obama just like the supposedly untrue attack on John Kerry in 2004 with regard to his swift boat experiences. (You may remember that Kerry lied about his service in Vietnam and much was made of this in the 2004 campaign.)

No matter what the libs say, however, this is not even close to the swiftboat story. In that episode, there were conflicting statements from Kerry and the other veterans who served with him. Here, there are only the words of Obama himself. Obama talks about all that he did. The Obama ad talks about what a risk the raid was for Obama. It is even Obama who says that it would be a bad thing to spike the football over the bin Laden raid. This is not a dispute about who said what or who is correct. It is, rather, a clear message about Obama's own high self regard, his conceit that he is the only important person and the only one whose actions mattered in getting bin Laden.

I hope that the left continues the counter attack on this video. The more it is discussed, the more folks will see it and the less likely an Obama victory in November will be.
