The biggest news of the day, according to the New York Times, is that last year only 49.9% of the babies born in the USA were "white". The majority of infants were African American, Hispanic, Asian, Native American, Pacific Islander, or Aleut. This is the story that is at the top of page one this morning. Not surprisingly, after telling us this "news", the Times then goes on to analyze how this will affect politics in the USA going forward. On the whole, the article is a great example of what ought to be described as "liberal racist thought".
Liberal racist thought looks at people, not as individuals but instead as members of a group. Most often, the group involved is racial, but it also can be gender based or determined by sexual orientation. Sometimes, there is also an income component, but that is hardly ever determinative in comprising the groups.
Think about it. The New York Times, that great bastion of liberal racist thought tells us that politics will change with an inevitable move in favor of the left and Democrats because the number of Hispanics in the USA is growing. To the Times, these folks are not individuals who will make up their own minds; they are members of a "racial" group who will all vote alike. Similarly, all Asians will vote together as will all Native Americans. In the Times world, only whites split their votes; only whites make determinations based upon the merits of the candidates running for office and their respective positions. The other groups just go to the polls and mark their ballots for their "racial" choices.
Let me put it another way. Suppose a black political leader were to state that blacks who vote for the GOP were traitors to their race and that blacks who ran for office as Republicans were Uncle Toms or Oreos (black on the outside, but white on the inside.) This happens all the time. Clarence Thomas, Condi Rice, general Powell, Congressman Alan West, and many others have been attacked on this basis by the left. How dare a black man or woman be a conservative or a Republican! Now imagine the reaction were white conservatives to label white liberals as race traitors or "black wannabes". The storm of outrage would be something to behold. Why? The answer is simple: the liberal media buys into liberal racist thought wholeheartedly. Blacks have to be part of their racial group, while whites do not. Blacks can be traitors to their racial group, while whites cannot.
In other words, liberals and their allies in the media perpetuate race as a defining issue in America. Instead of looking at individuals; liberals look at racial groups.
We have had a long history of racial issues, problems and disasters in the USA. Fifty years ago, a battle was waged to end those problems. For the most part, that battle was won. The vestiges of racism have been dying off. Each year brings fewer and fewer Americans who want to support a racial divide. That is why liberal racist thought is so dangerous. Indeed, this philosophy is, in my opinion, the biggest source of socially acceptable racism left in the USA. We have to stop talking about people in this way. They are individuals, not members of a herd. It may well be that one group or another will vote on the issues in a similar manner, but that is far from a given. Fifty years ago, Catholic working class voters were strongly Democratic. Today, they are one of the stronger segments of the current Republican coalition. But that is their choice; these folks are not voting because of a group imperative. These people have made individual choices. Sure, the choices are shaped by their backgrounds and experiences, but also by much, much more. The same is true for Hispanics, Asians, left-handed Hindus, and every other conceivable group of individuals.
Liberal racist thought has to stop.
