Violence at the Macedonian Border

There were clashes today on the border between Greece and Macedonia.  On the Greek side, there were hundreds of migrants from the Middle East who tried to scale the border fence and enter Macedonia illegally.  On the Macedonian side there were police who used water cannons, rubber bullets and tear gas to keep the migrants out.  The migrants threw rocks at the police over the fence.  Hundreds were injured including many in the nearby refugee camp that were overcome by the tear gas.

If you read the reports of the clash, they are filled with commentary of how the Macedonian police overreacted.  Really?  How so?  The police kept out those who did not have permission to enter the country.  The police kept out those who were climbing over the fence to gain illegal entry to Macedonia.  In other words, the police were doing their job.  No one was killed.  No one was actually shot with live ammunition.  Not one of those seeking to enter Macedonia were allowed in.

The reporters who covered the event also filled their stories with claims by the migrants that it was all unfair.  After all, the Europeans had told them to come, right?  If you just read the articles, you would think that this claim is true.  There are, however, no statements from Macedonia or Macedonian officials inviting the migrants to that country.  Let's assume that there actually are invitations from other countries.  That does not justify trying to gain entry illegally into Macedonia.

Just for once, I would like to see a fair report about these so called refugees.
