Bernie Sanders spoke at the Apollo Theater in Harlem on Saturday. When he was done he took a few questions from the crowd. The last person to ask a question was a Black Lives Matter activist who said this:
“You went to Israel for a year. As you know, Zionist Jews—I don’t mean to offend anybody—they running the Federal Reserve, they running Wall Street, they’re running everything. What is your relationship with your Jewish community?”
Sanders responded by saying that he would treat both Israelis and Palestinians fairly. So, at that point, the questioner continued by saying this:
“Why don’t we talk about the Zionist Jews that own every major corporation and media company? I want to know why a 74-year-old Jewish man doesn’t want to talk about his religion. When have you ever met a Jew that did not care about other Jews?”
By that time Sanders was leaving the stage, but his spokesperson told the questioner that they could "have a discussion."
So, no one said that they guy asking the question was wrong. Sanders just let it stand that Jews own every major corporation and media company. That surely would be news to those major corporations and media companies. Nearly every one is a public company owned by millions of Americans. The phony stereotype of Jewish control of corporations and media is, however, an old staple of anti-Semitism. One has to ask why the Sanders campaign thought it appropriate to tolerate this lie?
Imagine, for a moment, that the questioner had asked Sanders what he planned to do about the Moslem terrorists who are living among us here in America. Do you think that Sanders would have made some general reply and had his spokesman tell the questioner that they could have a discussion later? Of course not. Sanders would have delivered a strong condemnation of the premise of the question, that Moslems living in the USA harbor terrorists in their midst.
Imagine that the questioner had asked Sanders how he would deal with gays who spread AIDS across America. Would Bernie just brush it off without saying anything? No way.
Suppose that a questioner asked how Sanders would treat blacks who choose not to work but who just live on welfare and use the payments to get high. Think that would get a mild response? Not a chance.
So why is it that the left thinks that it's okay to spread lies about Jews but treats the same action regarding anyone else as a call to arms?
