What's the biggest story at the moment? It's not the start of 2018 or the cold that's swept across America. It's not the latest outburst by Rocket Man in North Korea. Nope. Clearly, the biggest story today is the continuing protest in Iran. Literally hundreds of thousands of Iranians are risking their lives and their futures to take to the street to protest against the religious dictatorship that runs the so called Islamic Republic. The protesters are demanding a new government. If they achieve that result, it would immediately remove from the world the biggest state sponsor of terrorism, the main cause of unrest in the Middle East, a major inciter of hatred for the USA, and an incipient nuclear power from the world stage. This is big stuff for the entire world.
The Iran protests are also a good example of the crazy effects of anti-Trump derangement in the mainstream media across the world. Let's just look at the USA first.
1. Since the outbreak of protests, there has been very little coverage of the protests on network news, CNN or MSNBC. Yesterday, when a government attack on the protesters led to two deaths in Iran, the only mainstream network to cover the story was NBC. In that report, NBC spent much time denouncing the tweets of support that President Trump and his administration have sent out for the rights of the protesters to be heard. We got the usual "experts say" line from the NBC reporter who announced that the statements by the White House of support for the protesters would be ineffective and harmful to American interests. Like usual, those "experts" are never identified. NBC went on to report in detail the Iranian government propaganda about the protests. Of course, they provided no analysis of that propaganda but let it go unchallenged.
2. We all know that in 2009, there were massive protests in Iran. At that time, the USA stayed silent. President Obama did not want to say anything to assist the protesters because that might upset the Iranian government. He watched silently as the protests were crushed with a great many deaths and many more arrests. In all the sparse coverage of the current protests, essentially none of the mainstream media speaks at all of the events of 2009 by way of comparison to the present events. It's inconceivable.
So why the silence? Why no mention of Obama's debacle in 2009? Well, the media just can't have that; it would show a failure by St. Barack, who is, after all, the patron saint of slanted journalism. Also, mentioning Obama's failure could make President Trump's current actions look good by comparison, and the media can't do anything that might be positive for Trump. Indeed, the media can't really discuss the protests without mentioning Trump's words in support of the protesters, and that too might make Trump look good. Hence, the silence ensues.
The end result of this politically motivated silence by the media is that many Americans are being kept in the dark about one of the biggest events of recent months. The point of the news ought to be to inform the public. Instead, the mainstream media operates so that its goal is the undermining of President Trump. Just think how much of the media promoted the obvious lie that the recent tax legislation would cost middle class Americans higher taxes. The media was willing to push a clear lie just to keep going with their anti-Trump campaign. Staying silent about Iran or distorting the little bit of news on the subject is just more of the same. As a result, America suffers.
UPDATE: CNN has today finally given coverage to the protests. Amazingly, CNN slants its coverage to a pro-government position. It reports everything that the Iranian government spokesmen have to say about the protests without comment. It also mentions the positions announced by the protesters and video that they released to show events in Iran. Each time CNN mentions something from the protesters, however, it announces that CNN cannot verify the accuracy of the statements. Think about that. CNN quotes without comment the mullahs saying that two people killed in the protests were not shot by government forces. Then CNN says that protesters claim government forces shot into the crowd and killed two people. CNN quickly adds that it cannot verify that claim.
CNN finally also mentions Trump's tweets regarding the protests. In the tweets, the President mentions that the Iranian government had "shut down the internet" to hamper the protesters' ability to get their message out. CNN then feels compelled to comment that the Iranians did not shut down the internet, but only shut off social media. Unbelievable.
