What Will 2018 Bring

Since we are starting a new year, it's traditional to make predictions about what will happen.  Here are some of mine:

1.  The US economy will start growing even faster.  The growth rate in GDP will exceed 4% in at least two quarters during the year.  That will be the first time in a decade that such a growth rate is hit.

2.  A compromise will be reached in Congress to extend DACA.  Those currently covered by DACA will be given legal status to stay in the USA as residents, but they will not get citizenship.  The law will also end the immigration lottery and will limit chain migration.  It will provide more funding for border security and an initial payment to cover construction of the wall.

3.  A new justice of the Supreme Court will be chosen by President Trump and will be confirmed.

4.  The USA will reach a new trade deal with at least two of the following:  1) Japan; 2) the UK; 3) Canada and Mexico; and 4) a group of South American nations.

5.  ISIS in Iraq and Syria will be completely eradicated so that it controls no territory and has only a handful of supporters.

6.  The Russian incursion into eastern Ukraine will boil for a short time and then be resolved with some sort of peace agreement.

7.  There will be military action with regard to North Korea, but it will not expand into a large scale war.

8.  In the elections in November, the Republicans will retain the House with minor changes in the numbers of seats held by each party.  In the Senate, the GOP will pick up a minimum of four seats net.

9.  The Mueller investigation will conclude that there is no evidence of any illegal activity by the President or his campaign with regard to collusion with Russia.  Mueller will also find no obstruction of justice by Trump.

10.  The wave of sexual harassment allegations will claim at least another two congressmen and one senator.  In Hollywood, there will be many more allegations of this sort.

11.  The stock market will end 2018 at least 12% higher than it began the year.

12.  At least some of these predictions will be correct.
