Seven Hours of Boredom

I waited until I saw the ratings for the CNN "Townhall" on climate change before writing about it.  Two days ago, CNN ran a seven hour marathon during which it interviewed 10 of the Democrat presidential candidates on the subject of climate change.  Each candidate got a 40 minute segment.  The verdict seems to be universal:  no one cared and no one watched this endless gabfest on climate change.

The ratings show that CNN came in third to Fox News and MSNBC during each hour it was broadcasting the climate town halls.  During certain times, CNN got a very small percentage of the total viewers of cable news.  During the 9:00 hour when Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren were on CNN, the combined Fox News and MSNBC audience was almost six times larger than the small group that CNN drew.  It was embarrassing.

Remember, the audience CNN drew when it hosted the Democrat candidates debates was much larger than this.  Without a doubt, this means that there is just not much interest in the subject matter.

Even worse than the ratings for the town hall shows was the content.  The interviews and questions never focused on the basic question of whether or not Earth is experiencing man-made climate change.  Given that recent NOAA data shows that there is no warming, one would think that someone would raise that issue.  After all, does it make sense to destroy our economy and bankrupt our country to fight against a problem that doesn't really exist?  But it didn't matter.  Each bit of the town halls that I saw focused on the need for government intervention into the economy, controls on the behavior of individuals and sacrifices for the "good" of the world.

Basically this was seven boring hours of nonsense.
