An Omen or A Mirage?

The Democrat party of the state of Wisconsin held its convention over the weekend.  As part of the event, there was a straw poll for president with all of the delegates eligible to vote.  The party loyalists in Wisconsin chose Hillary Clinton as their favorite.  That was no surprise.  Vermont senator Bernie Sanders came in second.  Again, that was no surprise.  But here's the big news:  Hillary's margin was only 49% to 41% with the remainder split among a group of others.  That's right!  Bernie Sanders got 41% of the vote among these party activists.

It's also important to know when considering these results that there was no campaign of any sort by Sanders to gain votes in the straw poll.  Prior to the straw poll, a letter from Hillary Clinton had been read to the delegates, but a video message from Sanders was only played after the voting in the straw poll was over.

It's hard to imagine that Hillary the Inevitable did not even get a majority of the vote from party regulars and that she nearly lost to Bernie.  We don't know if Hillary's numbers were down because of all of her problems or if the Sanders campaign has actually drawn people to his banner.  Either way, this is a very bad indicator for Mrs. Clinton.  We will have to wait and see if this result is an omen of bad news for Hillary or just a mirage that means nothing.  Personally, I would vote for the omen.
