According to the latest breathless reports in the media, governor Haley and senators Graham and Scott of South Carolina are going to endorse the removal of the Confederate flag from the Civil War memorial on the grounds of the old statehouse. Who cares? It's all just political nonsense.
Nine people were shot and killed at the church in Charleston. Taking down the flag won't change that. Taking down the flag won't stop it from happening again in the future. Taking down the flag really won't change anything except which flag is flying over the Civil War memorial. It's just meaningless symbolism. The push to take down the flag started with the libs; it's just the kind of symbolic nonsense that they love. You know the stuff; let's all wear a pink ribbon to fight breast cancer. It doesn't stop one woman from getting the disease or cure anyone, but we can all walk around with out pink ribbons and feel like we did something (even if we didn't). That sort of nonsense graduated into things like mattress girl who carried a mattress around the campus of Columbia University supposedly to protest her rape (even though it turned out she was not raped). All sorts of politicos praised her courage. Just imagine how courageous she had to be to falsely accuse an innocent guy of rape.
Look, as I said yesterday, I see no reason for the Confederate flag to fly over the memorial in South Carolina. I would vote to remove it were I in the legislature. But let's get a grip here. This whole debate is complete nonsense. It does nothing. Rather than waste the effort on the flag, why not raise cash to donate to the church where all this happened with the money to be used for neighborhood improvements as guided by the church? That would be much more significant.
