Just Once, Let's Wait For The Facts

The terrible shooting in a Charleston church is already being labeled a hate crime.  Clearly, it is a despicable act.  The idea that the shooter sat through an hour of church with his victims and then opened fire and killed nine is beyond comprehension.  Who would do such a thing?  The problem, however, is that we ought not overlay race and politics onto this crime.  Let's catch the killer first so that we can determine who he is and why he did what he did.

There are many possibilities.  Think about it.  Was this guy a terrorist?  He certainly wasn't dressed like one, but that may simply be so that he could blend in and carry out his attack.  From the photo, we can't tell very much.  Was this guy mentally ill?  Again, we don't know.  Was the shooter attacking these folks because they were Christians?  Another enigma at this point!  Did the motivation for the attack stem from race?  That's a possibility, but we don't know.  Was this just a random act?  ??????????  Was this an attack to kill one of the victims that was dressed up to make it look like something else?  That sounds too much like a plot for a TV show, but it is still a possibility, albeit an unlikely one.

Just for once, can't we wait until we know something.  Just think how many supposed facts discussed after recent events of this sort turned out to be false.  The man who shot Congresswoman Giffords turned out not to be a right winger inspired by Sarah Palin, but a mental case whose politics were far left.  The shooter in Aurora, Colorado turned out to be another crazy just like the killer in Newtown, Connecticut.  Despite early "facts", neither had a political agenda.  When George Zimmerman shot Trayvon Martin, the strong racial aspect of the case turned out to have been manufactured by NBC by changing the tape of Zimmerman's phone conversation with the police.  Then there's "hands up, don't shoot" which turned out to be a total fabrication.  Race relations in this country right now are bad enough.  Before we all jump to conclusions, let's get some facts.
