Alec Baldwin surprises me

For at least the last decade, I have viewed the actor Alec Baldwin as a far left talking point. He has frequently been nasty in expressing his views. I will not list some of the nonsense he spouted, but it was pretty bad. Today, however, he wrote a column about Anthony Weiner that got published by the Huffington Post that truly surprised me. According to Baldwin, Weiner was just a very busy guy who was done in by his easy access to devices like smart phones and computers. He needed the affirmation of his worth that he could get by having some anonymous woman at the other end of the connection wanting to have internet sex with him. After all, Weiner's wife was busy too and not always available when he was ready for action.

So, you may ask, why does this surprise me? There is not a single word in Baldwin's column about the need for Weiner to control his desires. If he needed action and his wife were unavailable, then it was ok for him to contact a porn star in vegas or a teacher in Texas for some "carrying on". Forget that he took a marriage vow less than a year ago. Forget that decency requires that he consider his position before he did something like this. Nope. Weiner had no fault here according to Baldwin; it was those pesky devices that lured him into this mess.

What truly surprises me about Baldwin's column is his total acceptance of wrongdoing as being fault free. Rumor has it that Baldwin wants to run for political office. Just imagine, we can have another politician who not only cannot recognize right from wrong but who affirmatively laments when someone gets caught on the wrong side of that divide.

I would say that Baldwin should stick to acting, but, unfortunately, I have seen him act. Unlike Baldwin, I do not think it appropriate to tell a lie.
