I was looking at the job approval polls for president Obama and saw that the entire "bounce" that came from the bin Laden death is now gone. I cannot say that I am surprised. After all, despite the spin from the press, Obama did nothing but what any American president would have to do. Just imagine if word got out that Obama did not send the seal team to get bin Laden and he moved elsewhere. Afte 9-11, any president would have to give the order to get bin Laden. Nevertheless, Obama got a bump in many of the polls after the announcement about bin Laden.
The truth, however, is that a tenth of a percent rise in unemployment will beat out the death of bin Laden any day. Sure, maybe if Obama actually had done something to get credit for the bin Laden death, the effect would have lasted longer. When Obama takes credit for what the brave seal team did, however, the glow cannot last too long.
It will be interesting to see where things go now. A few more bad economic numbers could put Obama down to a point where more people just tune him out. If that happens, it will be much harder for him to win them back for the re-election campaign.
