The news on today's aircraft attacks on Syrian protesters is mostly in; the latest count is 32 dead and scores more wounded by the government gunships that fired at random on the people below. Earlier today I asked where president Obama was in explaining why identical conduct in Syria and Libya led to such different responses. Now we learn what the USA is planning as a result of today's slaughter. The latest from the White House is that the USA is going to endorse the European resolution in the Security Council at the UN in which Syrian president Assad and his government are condemned for their actions. Of course, Russia has already said that it will veto that resolution, and the indications are that China will follow suit as well, so the American position is symbolic at best and ridiculous at worst. One thing is certain: Bashir Assad must be trembling in Damascus to think that the USA will vote for a resolution that is sure to fail which criticizes his actions but carries no sanctions for those actions.
Why can't Obama even be bothered to make a statement to cameras about the Syrian killings? What else is he doing? Playing golf?
