Only in California

In one of the weirder moves of the day, California governor Jerry Brown vetoed the budget passed by the Democrat controlled legislature; Brown explained that the budget relied on questionable gimmicks and phony accounting and it would not address the structural problems in the Califormia finances. Okay, so far so good. What was weirt was this: the legislature now has two weeks to pass a replacement budget to close a 9.6 billion dollar gap. If no budget is passed, Brown says he will have to make drastic cuts in certain types of services and he calls this a "tragedy" for which the "Republicans will bear full responsibility." Huh?

The Democrats control the legislature. The governor is a Democrat. The Democrats passed a budget so filled with gimmics and phony accounting that the Governor vetoes it. This puts immediate pressure on the legislature to act. But, if they do not act it is the fault of .......Republicans?

This is like the captain of the Titanic blaming the sinking on passengers who had no control of the ship and who were not even on the bridge at the time the berg was hit.

I think that too many people in California think that fictional outcomes are OK.
