The GOP Presidential debate

Tonight's debate among the GOP presidential hopefuls is coming at a true crossroads for this election cycle. In the last few weeks, the weaknesses of president Obama are all coming to the fore. Remember back in May when the media was pushing the theme that Obama was unbeatable? Well that has gone quickly from the scene. All it took was a lack of leadership on the debt negotiations, a whinny persona that spent day after day blaming others without coming forth with any solutions, constant attempts to split the country along class lines with attacks on "millionaires and billionaires" (even though most folks realize that those under attack are anything but millionaires), dithering and indecisive failure to lead on foreign policy, silence on the major events causing fear in the country (like the S&P downgrade) and then more finger pointing and lack of leadership. In other words, it just took Obama being Obama.

With Obama's true weakness exposed for even his supporters to see, it is extremely important that the GOP candidates show themselves capable and deserving of leadership. America is not looking for slogans; we want solutions. America is not looking for oratory; we want answers. America does not want to spend time determining who is at fault; we want to move forward. The candidates who can explain how he would grow the economy is the one who will do best. The candidate who can put forth positions that will help the entire country rather than one group against another will do best. The candidate who can explain a coherent and reasonable view of America's national interst abroad rather than advocating an ad hoc plan for each event will do best. Experience and results will also be important.
In other words, the candidate who is the opposite of Obama will be most likely to succeed.

I would like to think that the candidates who come forward with rigid ideologies will not do well. Ronald Reagan knew that . He was guided by firm and unyielding principles, but he knew that sometimes getting most of what you want is better than holding out for everything and getting nothing.

This is great chance for the eventual nominee to shine before millions of voters. Please take that opportunity.
