Nonsense from CBS

This morning I heard a report on CBS "News" which looked at the jobs created in Texas during the tenure of Rick Perry as governor. During that eleven year period, Texas created many more jobs than any other state in the country. Here is what CBS had to say:

1) Texas was creating jobs before Perry took office. This point surprised me because George W. Bush was governor right before Perry and CBS never says anything nice about Bush.

2) The jobs created in Texas were mostly low-paying. Of course, CBS had no statistics to back this up. Nor did CBS poll the millions of unemployed in other states and ask them if they would like a job that would be "low paying". The truth is that this charge made me laugh out loud. I remember when unemployment was about 5% under president Bush and the media kept telling us that the jobs being created were not good ones. Under Obama when the unemployment rate went down as hundreds of thousands were hired for a month or two to do census work, the media did a dance to celebrate.

3) Texas has less social services than other states. Again, this is funny. Maybe the geniuses at CBS might realize that the reason for economic growth in Texas is that the state does not overtax its residents for purported social services that just waste money to pay for more state employees. Think of president Obama's greatest "achievement" Obamacare which set up a massive bureaucracy to handle the vast numbers of folks who were going to join the federally funded high risk pools in order to have health insurance. A year and a half later, the number of people who have signed up is just under 3% of what was expected. There are almost more workers running the program than folks who have sought benefits under it. Maybe Texas has the right idea.

4) Texas schools are weak. This was another howler. No statistics were given for this charge. No one mentioned that Texas has a huge population of people who do not speak English as their first language, a major reason for lower scores on standard tests. My guess is that the basis for the charge by CBS is that Texas teachers probably do not get the same benefits as those in other states. How better for CBS to measure school performance than by the pension plan of the teachers.

I should not be surprised that CBS is out with another attack on Governor Perry. He is a threat to Obama and, in CBS' view, he must be stopped. Nevertheless, it pains me to think that a news source that used to be symbolized by Edward R Murrow and Walter Cronkite has sunk to the level of flack for the Democrat party. CBS is now Complete BS.
