The unemployment numbers are in. In July, jobs rose by 117,000. This was a bit more than expected by the "experts" who are surprised each month. More important, it is an increase of 71,000 above the revised figure for June. The unemployment rate also fell by one tenth of a percent, but that was due to people giving up and dropping out of the job search.
These numbers are anemic by anoyone's standards. Still, they are a step in the right direction. I will gladly take them. While they do not show a recovery, at least they also do not show things getting worse. In the current economic situation that is good news.
