Writing in the New York Times about Newt Gingrich's performance in last night's GOP debate, Charles Blow (yes, that really is his name) accuses the Speaker of racism for saying 1)Barack Obama is the food stamp president who has sought to maximize dependency, 2)long-term unemployment payments should be tied to training, and 3)children in poor neighborhoods should be given jobs in the schools so that they can learn a work ethic. Blow also says that calling Juan Williams "Juan" was racist. Notice first, that Gingrich said nothing about any race or ethnic group; he was speaking about poor people. Blow is the one who translates "poor" into African American. In other words, according to Blow and the left, any discussion by Republicans about what to do to deal with poverty in America which seeks to change the current failed system is inherently racist. One would think that even a commited progressive like Blow could see just how silly that argument is.
My favorite point in the article, however, is Blow's objection to Newt Gingrich calling Juan Williams by his first name. Perhaps Blow also considered the references by Santorum to "Mitt" and "Newt" to be anti-white. Maybe when Romney called Bret Baier by "Brett" he too was being anti-white. I mean, to paraphrase Newsweek, how stupid are Obama's defenders?
