Imagine this

Imagine the reaction around the world to news that Israeli forces had used mortars and artillery to bombard the market in a Palestinian refugee camp during shopping hours with the result that 21 were killed and scores more wounded. The outrage would be immediate and the denunciations would come non-stop. "Genocide!" and "War Crimes!" would surely be shouted by leftists around the world. Well, this did not happen. What did happen this morning is that Syrian forces of the Assad regime used mortars and artillery to bombard the market in a Palestinian refugee camp in Damascus during shopping hours with the result that 21 were killed and scores more wounded. Have you heard about this? Did the slaughter of these people who were doing nothing more than buying food make its way past the non-stop coverage of Olympic sports like beach volleyball and badminton? Of course not. After all, these are just another 21 bodies to add to the 20 thousand that Assad and his goons have piled up in graves in Syria. No one outside of Syria seems to care all that much. The press cannot be bothered even to report about this when there is a chance to talk about the windsurfing competition at the London Olympics.

Supposedly, president Obama has issued a "secret" authorization to help the Syrian rebel forces, which, of course, was supposedly leaked to the press to make Obama look good for the campaign. Who knows what is true? Why can't Obama just step forward to a microphone and tell us all what his Syrian policy really is. If America is going to support the rebels, then we deserve to know that this is happening and we also deserve and explanation from the president as to why.
