Earlier this week, a Pennsylvania court refused to delay implementation of the law that requires photo ID in order to vote in that state. For months and even years, we have all heard the screams of phony outrage from the left at what they call "voter suppression". The poor and minorities would not be able to get the necessary ID's was shouted on TV screens and over radios until it became a joke. In the Pennsylvania lawsuit, the ACLU brought in Viviette Applewhite a 93 year old Philadelphian who testified that she would not be able to get the ID since she did not have a copy of her birth certificate. Ms. Applewhite was just one of countless thousands who would be disenfranchised.
After the court ruled, Ms. Applewhite decided to go get the ID. She took the bus to the Department of Motor Vehicles and presented her social security card as ID. She got the ID in under a minute. It was free. A reporter went along for the trip; she was hoping to document just how difficult it was for poor Ms. Applewhite. Instead, she documented just how easy it was to get the needed ID. And by the way, no one told the folks at the DMV that Ms. Applewhite was involved in the lawsuit. She got no special treatment.
Every so often, it is a good thing to add a dose of reality to the crazy political positions of the left, especially if the ACLU is involved. It cost Ms. Applewhite a bus fare to get the ID and that was it. And don't forget that in Philadelphia, there are reduced fares for seniors. Clearly, the ACLU lawsuit is about nothing.
