127 or 5000?

There are a number of articles spread across the web today that report on mass killings by ISIS in and around Palmyra, a city in Syria recently captured by the terrorist crazies.  Some place the number of dead as "low" as 127, while others put it much higher.  No matter which number is correct, there is no doubt that a campaign of political and religious "cleansing" is underway by ISIS in the area.

The sad thing is that no one seems to care about the death of these people.  Remember, these are not soldiers dying in the battle for Palmyra.  These are civilians, men, women and children, who are dying for being caught in the wrong place by Islamic terrorists who kill everyone who does not agree with them.  Actually, that last sentence was too kind to ISIS.  They kill everyone who does not feed their creed which requires certain types of people like Yazidis, Christians and Shiites to be slaughtered.  Agreement or lack of agreement has nothing to do with it; religious status controls it all.  So across Syria and Iraq, thousands of people have been put to death and, for the most part, America seems not to care.

This lack of concern is not new, particularly when it comes from the man who ought to care, president Obama.  Think of what has happened in Syria.

1.  President Assad of Syria sent snipers to shoot down innocent civilians protesting in peaceful marches in the streets of Damascus.  Obama did nothing and said nothing.  He did not care.

2.  The protests escalated into civil war as Assad sent his forces to round up and kill those who led the movement.  Tens of thousands were killed, but Obama stayed silent.  He could not even be bothered to condemn the killing.  He did not care.

3.  Finally, after the death toll had passed 100,000, Obama said that Assad needed to go.  That was it; nothing more happened because Obama did not care.  When he was asked about Syria's chemical weapons, he said that use of those weapons by Assad would cross a red line for the USA.

4.  A year later, Assad began to use chemical weapons despite Obama's red line.  Obama did not care.  He ignored the chemical weapon deployment.  Assad used those weapons 16 times with no response from America.  Other countries confirmed that thousands had been killed in chemical strikes by Assad's forces, but the White House said that it had no confirmation and did and said nothing.  Finally, the rebel forces got video of the terrible aftermath of a major chemical attack to Western media.  When the American people saw that video, they demanded action.  Even then, Obama's response was nothing more than frenzied nonsense.  He took no action, but he got an "agreement" from Assad to destroy his chemical weapons.

5.  Over the last few months, Assad has again been using chemical weapons which he had supposedly destroyed.  There has been no response and no comment from Obama.  He does not care.

6.  Then came ISIS.  These Islamic terrorists have killed tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands in Iraq and Syria.  Obama did not care.  When they took cities in Iraq, he shrugged them off and called them the JV team.  They did not matter.  Obama did not care about them.

7.  Now ISIS controls nearly half of Iraq and Syria and their killing continues unabated.  ISIS, however, released video of individual executions of Americans, Britons and others.  These videos were shown on American TV and, once again, the people demanded action.  Reluctantly, Obama started a desultory campaign of air strikes.  The level of power unleashed against ISIS by the American air force, however is trivial.  It is as if the fire department came to a burning home but refused to use the fire hoses; instead, the took paper cups and threw water at the fire.  Obama, however, does not care.

8.  America's staunch allies, the Kurds, who have helped us in Iraq for more than a decade are under assault by ISIS.  Obama does not care.  He promises aid, but sends none.

9.  More and more people die.  Obama does not care.  ISIS grows bigger and stronger.  Obama is just hoping that the problem stays in Iraq and Syria until he leaves office.  It will then be the problem of the next president.  You can bet that once he is out of office, Obama will be giving speeches criticizing whatever the next president does regarding ISIS.  The sad truth, however, is that Obama will still not care.
