But they still re-elect him -- The Charlie Rangel story

With the trial of Charlie Rangel about to commence in the House, news broke today that Rangel has added to his ethics woes. According to the NY Post, records show that Rangel used about 1.5 million dollars of money taken form a political action committee to pay for his personal legal defense. According to the Post, this is a clear violation of the House rules. So in addition to the tax evasion, submission of false documents and other improper actions of which he was already accused, Rangel now adds improperly taking funds from a PAC for personal use. This is all serious stuff. nevertheless, unless Rangel is expelled from the House, none of it will make any difference. The voters in Harlem just re-elected Charlie with about 80% of the vote. He also easily won a crowded primary with a big majority. The only way to get this guy out of Congress is for the House to have the courage to rid itself of him through the ethics committee.

For those of you who think that might happened, I can only say this: "Don't hold your breath waiting."
