Obama's War on America's energy Production

The news is out that since President obama "lifted" the ban on deep water drilling in the Gulf of Mexico over a month ago, the number of drilling permits issued by the feds is zero. That's right, none have been issued. In fact, the official in charge of issuing the permits says that he hopes that some will be issued by years' end, but he cannot say for sure.

One quarter of US oil production comes from deep water wells in the Gulf. the refusal to allow new wells to be drilled is estimated to reduce US oil production by 170,000 barrels per day during 2011. let's put that into context. At $80 per barrel, the cost of the lost production is $13,600,000 per day or about five billion dollars per year. that is five billion dollars that will get sent abroad to countries that do not particularly like the USA. That is also $5 billion dollars that will get sucked out of the US economy. That is a loss of thousands of jobs due to the money being taken out of the economy. Is it, by itself, the end of the world. Of course it is not. But, it is a symptom of what is truly wrong with Obama and the Obamacrats: they are totally disconnected from the impact of their actions on the economy and on the average American.

In his new book, Governor Bobby Jindal of Lousiana points out his conversations with Obama when the oil spill crisis was at its height. Jindal reports raising with Obama the lost jobs and other human toll inflicted by the oil spill and the ill-advised federal drilling ban. Obama's response was to point to poll numbers that showed that Americans approved of the ban. That exchange in a nutshell illustrates that aobama cared more about the politics of the spill than about the cost to incividual human beings.

I am tempted to say that carrying about individuals rather than about the "masses" is a Republican trait. Democrats look at the government as the answer to everything, so they cannot be bothered to consider how things impact individuals. The GOP focuses on empowering individuals so that they can use their opportunities to grow and prosper. In truth, however, while that statement is true in general, it is not uniformly correct. With regard to Obama, however, it is undoubtedly true. Here is a man who has a belief as to how energy must be generated in this country. Unfortunately, the solar and wind energy that he favors is not and cannot be sufficient to power the country for the foreseeable future. But that does not stop Obama. He pushes subsidies and advantages for these "green" energies. He does what he can to make other energies more expensive. In fact, even though there are energy sources like domestic natural gas that could go a long way towards ending America's reliance on foreign energy while at the same time reducing pollution, Obama just sticks to his solar/wind mantra. He does not care what happens to the individuals who get priced out of the energy market.

Remember, as we look towards 2012, Obama has got to go!
