The findings of a special federal commission investigating the reasons for the explosion and leak at the BP well in the gulf of Mexico and the performance of the ensuing capping and clean up is out, and it finds, in essence, that BP is not at fault. In fact, the commission finds that there were no instances that could be shown where BP put money ahead of safety in drilling the well.
So now that the commission has reported, we get the onslught from those who say things like "Everyone knows that BP always puts profits ahead of people." In other words, no matter the evidence, BP is to blame for everything.
Personally, I have no idea if BP did a good job here or not. I have to rely on experts who review the evidence and render a verdict. Well we now have the verdict and it does not fit in the narrative of the anti-corporate folks who just know that a big company like BP has to be greedy and evil. It also does not fit the narrative of some of the federal and local politicians who want someone to blame.
My only question is this: If no one cares what the commission concluded, why spend the money for the commisssion in the first place?
