David Axelrod, Newsman

NBC has hired David Axelrod to be a political analyst who will appear on both NBC and MSNBC.  That is certainly no surprise.  Indeed, aside from having connections to the Obama White House better than any other commentator at NBC, Axelrod brings no new point of view to that network.  Normally, I would say that it will be interesting to see if Axelrod can be even handed in his analysis on air; obviously, he will have a bias, but the question is whether or not he will be truthful.  My guess is that all we will see is more of the talking points that Axelrod has spouted for years.  Indeed, I used to think that "Axelrod" was a Greek word that translates roughly into "inability to determine what is true".  I have no intention of watching Axelrod, however, so I guess that I will never know the answer.

The interesting thing to me is to look at the coverage of the Axelrod appointment.  Every article that I saw mentions that Fox News has Republicans like Karl Rove as commentators.  That is somehow supposed to make the Axelrod appointment proper.  Of course, the articles miss the point.  FNC also has commentators like Dennis Kucinich and Lanny Davis, Democrat office holders and operatives, who provide balance.  Who does MSNBC have for balance?  They balance liberal Democrats with Socialists?
