Since I wrote about last night's State of the Union address, I have received a number of "inquiries" asking how I could discuss the speech and not mention president Obama's claim that all of the additional spending items he wanted would "not add a dime" to the federal budget deficit. The truth is that I thought that those of you who regularly read this site already knew that Obama's statement was just another lie. After all, no rational person could think that adding hundreds of billions of dollars of new spending could be done at no cost. Of course, such a move would increase the deficit and then the debt.
The funniest aspect of the speech was Obama's apparent belief that he can say whatever he wants whenever he wants to and the truth will be irrelevant. Last night sequestration was a looming disaster; Obama, of course, failed to mention that sequestration is a policy that he proposed. Now he is the one struggling against this evil policy (at least according to him.) In the speech, the economy has been roaring along creating millions upon millions of jobs. Of course, there is no mention that the total job growth during Obama's presidency has basically been flat. In the speech, energy production is soaring and green energy plans are producing enormous numbers of good jobs. That, of course, ignores that Obama has been working against any increase of oil or gas production. It also ignores the series of failures of federally funded green energy boondoggles for the friends of Obama. It also ignores that of the few real jobs created, a large percentage have been in countries other than the USA.
You get the point. There is a simple rule to follow when listening to an Obama speech. It is a modified version of an old Russian proverb that Ronald Reagan used to mention in his dealing with the Soviet Union. For Reagan the proverb was "trust, but verify." When listening to Obama, that proverb changes to "Don't trust, but verify". Just assume Obama is lying and then check out what he says.
