More Media Madness About Sequestration

This morning's headlines in Connecticut media sources revolve around an announcement that came from the Obama White House, namely that state and local government will lose up to $50 million in funding in 2013 due to the "meat cleaver" of the sequester.  The local Hearst outlet, the Greenwich Time, ran an article that explains how many children might lose participation in Head Start, how many teachers will lose their jobs, how many police will be laid off, and the like.  In none of the articles, however, does anyone bother to question the basic premise of the announcement from the Obama White House.  For example, a cut of $50 million in funds to state and local governments is a reduction in total spending by those governments of about 0.1% for the year.  In other words, the cuts are so tiny as to be nothing more than a rounding error.  There will be no impact on state or local governments.  The entire story is just pure nonsense.  I think it is safe to say that the state and local governments in my state could economize to save 0.1% of spending without having any adverse effect on the people.  Only in the left leaning world of the media is such a tiny cut a crisis.
