For many decades, the man who held the title as the dumbest US senator was none other than our current vice president Joe Biden. It wasn't that he had no ideas; he just never had any good ones. But now, it has been four years since Biden left the senate, and there has been much debate about which of the current senators could hold the title as the dumbest one. Today, we have a winner. The new holder of the title of Dumbest US Senator is none other than California Democrat Barbara Boxer.
Now, let me quickly add that this was a difficult decision. There were many contenders for the title, but Boxer just managed to eke out the win with an opinion column published at CNN. In the column, Boxer discusses the need to avoiding the sequester while still following common sense ways for reducing the deficit. So what genius moves does Boxer propose: first, she wants to save $700 billion from ending the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan which will reduce the deficit. Let's stop there. This bit of fiscal legerdemain was not originally Boxer's idea. It was used a few years back by president Obama when he was trying to come up with a $4 trillion spending cut without actually cutting spending. But back when Obama spoke about this, the war in Iraq had just ended. Now, we are two years later and that war is long over. Boxer, however, wants to "save" hundreds of billions of dollars by not spending any more on that war. Earth to Boxer, over! We cannot save from not fighting a war that is over. Maybe we could save ten trillion dollars by no longer fighting the Civil War or World War I. Boxer's position is idiotic.
A second plan by Boxer is to "crack down on tax fraud and corporate tax evasion" to save another $100 billion per year. That's right, Boxer wants to bring in another trillion dollars over the next decade by enforcing the tax laws. Of course, the real question here is this: if the Obama administration could bring in another $100 billion each year by enforcing the laws on the books, what the hell have they been doing for the last four years. In other words, according to senator Boxer, president Obama has let $400 billion dollars in taxes just dribble away in the hands of tax cheats during his first term alone. This is a terrible indictment of Obama as an incompetent. Indeed, we all know that Boxer doesn't really mean that. She just wants to call for better enforcement and then announce that this is a one trillion dollar savings over the next decade. It is just another stupid idea from Boxer.
I think that Boxer at least deserves some sort of trophy for winning the title as stupidest person in the senate. Anyone with ideas as to what may be appropriate can either leave a comment or else email me. I may announce the winning idea in the future.
