More Horrors in Syria

According to the New York Post, a new effort is underway by the Assad forces in Syria in league with fighters from Hezbollah out of Lebanon.  Assad is trying to clear and area north of Damascus for use as a separate Alawaite state after the disintegration of Syria.  Let's examine what this means.

1) The Alawaites are only about one-eighth of the Syrian population, but they have ruled in Syria for fifty years.  Three quarters of the population are Sunni, and these folks are the main supporters of teh rebellion against Assad.

2)  There are areas of Syria that are predominantly Alawaite, but these are not physically connected to Lebanon at any point.  In the border areas, the villages are mostly Sunni, although there are a number of Christian villages as well.  If Syria disintegrates, these Sunni and Christian villages would cut the link between the Alawaites and Hezbollah in Lebanon, both of which depend for survival and arms on Iran.

3)  If Hezbollah and the new Assad mini-state are to survive, they each need continuing arms and support from Teheran.  For that support to reach both of them, there needs to be a secure land link between the mini-state and Lebanon, and a secure land link means cannot exist with the Sunni and Christian villages in place.

4)  As a result, the Assad forces and the Hezbollah forces are attacking Sunni villages in the required area to drive out the residents.  In Bosnia, this was called ethnic cleansing.  In Syria, it is the same thing.  To be simple, you could just call it murder.

I do not know if this is accurate, but it is being reported.  If indeed, this ethnic cleansing is happening, then we are witnessing just how depraved Iran and its cronies are.  The Syrian civil war is morphing from just a war where well armed forces of Assad slaughter tens of thousands of civilians as they attempt to fight the rebels into a different kind of war, one where these evil forces kill thousands of civilians just to get their lands.  The Assad forces are going from war crimes to crimes against humanity.

It really is time for the USA to get involved in some way to stop the senseless killing.
