MSNBC goes for Wonk over Work

It has been an interesting day in the world of left wing media.  First, Ed Schultz of "The Ed Show" announced that he was moving from the 8 PM weekday slot on MSNBC to a new show on a weekend night.  According to Schultz, he made the decision himself to move because he could reach more working folks at that time.  The announcement made me wonder if Schultz ran his statement by anyone before he released it.  It was blatantly idiotic.  No one reaches a bigger audience with one show on a cable news channel on the weekend compared to prime time during the week.  No one!  Schultz was just embarrassing himself with the lie.

Then, just a few hours later, MSNBC made clear that the Ed Schultz announcement was a lie when it said that it had decided to replace Schultz with Chris Hayes.  Hayes was described by the network as more cerebral than Schultz.  Of course, Kim Kardashian is more cerebral than Schultz.  Hayes is what those on the left like to call a policy wonk.  Supposedly, these are people who learn the details of important policy arguments.  In reality, Hayes is actually adept only at learning the relevant talking points.

The problem for Hayes, however, is not whether or not he is a wonk.  The problem is that he is boring.  Listening to him is just not enjoyable.  A host like Rachel Maddow will spout just as many biased stories as Hayes will, but at least she will be entertaining to watch.  Hayes is more like a toothache; the best part is when he is gone.

I predict a short life for the new Chris Hayes show.  Then again, MSNBC still has Lawrence O'Donnell on the air, and his show reminds me of undergoing surgery without anesthesia.
