This is News??

Two big stories circulating today are that president Obama had dinner last night with twelve Republican senators and that today, Obama is supposed to have lunch with Republican Paul Ryan.  This is news?

The sad truth is that Obama even talking to Republicans actually is news.  These two meals are the first time that Obama has met with rank and file Republicans other than on formal occasions in the last four years.  Obama has also been calling Republicans in congress as well.  Until now, Obama has carried on in office with total disdain of the GOP.  Sure, he mentions the Republicans when he bashes them in his endless campaign appearances, and he often says that he wants to hear their ideas.  The truth, however, is that Obama not only does not want to hear the ideas of others, but also that he will not listen to those ideas even when they get presented.  Obama is carrying out the mind set of the far left base of the Democrats who view all Republicans as nutty.  Today, for example, the New Republic has an article which says that last night's dinner must have been "torture" for Obama since he had actually to spend time with Republicans.  Then, the New Republic goes on to talk about the "plan" that Obama is offering in place of sequestration.

All of this leads me to give some free advice to the GOP senators and congressmen who are now being courted by Obama.  First, don't let it go to your heads.  You need to remember with whom you are dealing.  Obama may be president, but he also is the one who wants to keep spending without ever considering that the country may go broke as a result.  Do what is good for the country, not for your own political future.  Second, make sure that any "plan" put forward by Obama gets confirmed in public by the president.  We have seen too many instances of Obama rewriting history.  If Obama has a plan, let him put it forward in public.  Third, keep to the plan of using regular order in the House and Senate to consider any actions.  We can have committee hearings and time to consider the changes without any problems.  There is no reason for secrecy or haste in these considerations.  The country needs to understand who is in favor of what.

This is the only acceptable alternative!
Put up or SHUT UP!
