The WaPo Gets Nervous About Menendez

The Washington Post seems to be getting nervous about the future of New Jersey Democrat senator Robert Menendez.  The result is a very lengthy puff piece about Menendez in today's paper.  The funny thing is, however, that all that the paper does is point out over and over that Menendez is not rich and that he is Hispanic.  Oh, they also add that he came from Hudson County in New Jersey, so he is stuck dealing with maching politics.

Maybe next time the WaPo decides to write about Menendez, it can discuss whether or not being Hispanic gives Menendez the right allegedly to sell his influence in exchange for "gifts" and campaign contributions.  WaPo can also discuss whether or not coming from a poor family is an excuse for allegedly frequenting fifteen year old prostitutes in the Dominican Republic.  Does coming from an area filled with machine politics suddenly make that style of gritty behavior proper?

The truth is that Menendez is now in the cross hairs of an investigation being run by the Obama Administration.  It was not a partisan decision to convene a grand jury.  Indeed, if Menendez is forced to resign, his successor will be chosen by Chris Christie, a Republican.  Surely, there would not be a grand jury if the Justice Department thought it had an alternative.  Nope, this is serious stuff.

I repeat my prediction that Menendez will soon be gone.  It is jus sad that the folks at the Washington Post think that somehow Menendez should be entitled allegedly to break the law because he is both poor and Hispanic.
