So What Was That All About - 2

This morning, I wrote a post questioning what, if anything, president Obama accomplished by his visit to the Middle East.  He had no clear goals when he landed, and he achieved nothing.  In an interesting counterpoint, CNN has a piece on its website proclaiming that Obama "knocked it out of the park" on his trip.  According to CNN, Obama made clear the strength of America's commitments.  In particular, for all those who had concluded from Obama's prior conduct that America would abandon the Israelis, the trip allowed Obama to say that this would not happen.  Okay, so the trip repaired damage that Obama had done to the belief that America and Israel were allies.  And why is that?  The answer is that Obama went to Israel and said it was so.  Strangely, CNN is prepared to accept things that Obama says at face value and expects that the world will do the same.  In the rest of the world, however, the disconnect between Obama's words and actions is not covered up by a compliant media.  They know Obama for the phony that he surely is.

CNN is also effusive in praise because Obama got the Israelis to apologize to Turkey.  In fairness, the Israeli action was something other than a photo op.  I sincerely doubt, however, if it was Obama who caused it to happen.  Both Turkey and Israel are threatened at the moment by developments in Syria.  There is plenty of reasons why the two countries should move towards each other at this time.

So CNN thinks Obama's trip was great mainly because of what Obama said, not because of what he did.  And CNN further thinks that if it says the trip was great, why then it must be so.  Some day, reality will triumph over delusion but clearly that day has not arrived at CNN.
