There's something about Hillary Clinton and cash. The Democrats always portray Republican candidates as concerned only about the rich and money, but it is Hillary who brings that caricature to life. Just look at the record:
1. Hillary is actually using money donated for her campaign to pay herself a salary with benefits. So far, she's paid herself over a quarter of a million dollars in less than a year. Think about that. Thousands of people sent donations to the Clinton campaign for the costs of TV ads, mailers, etc. Hillary takes that money and gives it to herself? Then she makes a public filing which discloses that she is doing just that. Hillary has to know that those people who made contributions aren't going to be happy that she just took the cash for herself, but still she does it. Then add in that Bill and Hillary Clinton are worth over $100 million. Clearly, Hillary doesn't need the money; she's already part of the super-rich. But Hillary still takes the salary that she doesn't need and which makes her look bad. It seems she cannot help herself.
It's worth noting that in the last forty years, since campaign expenditures have been made public, no other presidential candidate has ever taken a salary from the campaign. Hillary appears to have discovered a new way to siphon off campaign cash for herself.
2. At a point when she was clearly planning her run for office, Hillary made repeated speeches to Wall Street groups for millions of dollars. Hillary had to know how bad this would look during a campaign. Bernie Sanders has been using those speeches to bash Hillary over and over. Nevertheless, Hillary took the money for herself even though she had to know it would hurt her campaign.
3. Hillary famously described herself and Bill as dead broke when Bill's term as president ended. That was just at the time that the Clintons bought a multi-million dollar mansion in the New York suburbs and Bill signed a deal that paid him over ten million dollars in advance money for his memoirs. Most Americans cannot even dream of having that kind of money, but in Hillary's mind, she was "dead broke". Her need for money is overwhelming.
4. Hillary used the family charitable foundation to pay for her expenses. Bill and Hillary are super-rich. Nevertheless, they still arranged that fully 82% of the expenditures of the Clinton Foundation were for "administration" rather than charitable grants. That "administration" included roughly $8 million per year in travel expenses (much of which was for Hillary herself.) Did she really have to use the charity's money to pay for her own expenses? Of course not, but for Hillary cash is king. She does all sorts of things just to increase her own bank account even if those things are very questionable.
Hillary has always exhibited personal greed that was extraordinary. Thirty years ago or so, it was Hillary who "donated" her old, used underwear to "charity" and took tax deductions for it. Old and used underwear? Really? But it got Hillary more cash, so she did it.
Hillary's love of cash seems to be pathological. It's the only explanation that makes sense. What will she do as president? Will she sell federal land and claim 5% as a broker's commission? Will she demand that the White House use a cash back credit card with the 2% going to her? Will she sell out some ally for a secret payment of a few million dollars?
