In the Washington Post, Dana Milbank, that stalwart liberal, writes today about Donald Trump's "fascist" behavior. Let's examine some supposed examples of fascist behavior:
1. At a political gathering, demonstrators from the opposition come in and scream and chant and disrupt the gathering until it has to be cancelled.
2. An employee who speaks out about politics is threatened by opponents of the employee's views and ultimately is forced out of her job because of pressure tactics by the opponents.
3. An advocacy group that has a Facebook page has that page shut down after pressure is brought upon Facebook not to allow the group to express its views.
4. Pressure from a political group forces a major institution to institute racial quotas with regard to filling certain positions.
So, is it "fascist" to use force to prevent free speech as in case 1 above? Is it "fascist" to use pressure on an employer to silence the speech of an employee as in case 2? Is it "fascist" to pressure the social media companies to silence the free speech of a group as in case 3 above? Is it "fascist" to impose racial quotas on major institutions by pressuring them as in case 4 above?
The clear answer to each of these questions is YES. The problem, of course, is that in none of these cases are Donald Trump or his followers the perpetrators of the fascist outrage. In each case above, it is the liberals, the Democrats who are the perpetrators. Shouting down the opposition, is common practice on campuses in recent years when the speaker is (a) pro-Israel, (b) conservative, or (c) anti radical Islam. The liberal fascists have forced out university presidents, professors and others for expressing their views, even views so harmless as a statement that there's no need to get upset about Halloween costumes. As for Facebook, it just succumbed to pressure to remove a page that supported the use of fracking in Pennsylvania. And regarding the use of racial quotas, just consider one of the innumerable actions by liberal groups regarding college admissions, municipal hiring etc.
There is a peril from Fascist behavior in the USA. That Fascist behavior, however, comes from the liberals, not from Donald Trump.
