In the glare of yesterday's GOP presidential primaries, very little else was noticed, but there were two very important bits of news that should not be missed:
1) Dennis Kucinich was defeated in his primary bid. He will be gone from Congress after the end of this term. Hooray! Here is a man who would have been more at home in the Politburo in the old Soviet Union than in Congress. Maybe he can move to Cuba and join the government there.
2) Congressman Jean Schmidt also lost her primary bid. She was ousted by a more conservative challenger in the GOP primary in Ohio. The winner, Brad Wenstrup, may find it difficult to win in November in the district. In both 2006 and 2008, the Democrat came close to winning so we will have to wait and see.
