Obama's Big Lie on Israel

In The Atlantic, there is an article discussing president Obama's record on Israel. It is a big lie of the sort that any propagandist would find a sorce of pride. Here is the quote from Obama that forms the essence of the Obamacrat position:

"Every single commitment I have made to the state of Israel and its security, I have kept. Why is it that despite me never failing to support Israel on every single problem that they've had over the last three years, that there are still questions about that?"

At the same time, DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz is denouncing statements that Obama has not had good relations with Israel as a "smear campaign". Jay Carney, the White House spokesman called the Obama relationship with Israel "sound" (in response to which the press corps actually laughed.)

Here is some of the "great support" that Obama has given to Israel since he took office:

1) Obama announced in early 2009, that Israel had to stop building settlements on "occupied" lands. As a result of this, the head of the Palestinian Authority had to stop further negotiations with Israel, since he could not continue to negotiate while Israel was building settlements without seeming to have a weaker position than that of the USA. Any such perception of weakness would have been the end of his career. So Obama's demand single handedly stopped all further negotiations.

But, you may ask, why it was bad for Obama to demand the end to settlements on occupied land? The answer comes when you hear what Obama and the Obamacrats consider a settlement and what is occupied land. A settlement is any home where Jews might live or office or factory where Jews might work. In other words, a single family home or and apartment building or a strip mall would be a "settlement" in official Obama jargon. Now add in "occupied territory". This term includes any land that was not under the control of Israel prior to the Six Days War in 1967. Think about that. All of the Old City of Jerusalem is occupied territory according to Obama. All of the eastern suburbs of Jerusalem is occupied territory according to Obama. Land that was owned by Jews prior to 1948 when the Arabs invaded Israel and that was taken by the Arabs before the eventual armistice is occupied territory. When you put settlement and occupied territory together, the result is that any home for a Jew in the Jewish Quarter of old Jerusalem is something that Obama demanded had to be halted. Obama demanded that half of Jerusalem had to be kept free of Jews. Obama demanded that families that had lost their lands to Arab conquest in 1948 could no longer build on that land which was recovered over 40 years ago in 1967.

Obama's demand was something that the Nazi's would have found appropriate: keeping parts of the countryside free of all Jews. Obama did not demand that homes being built for Muslims inside Israel had to stop; the only stop he asked for was regarding homes for Jews. But Obama calls this strong support for Israel.

Putting this into an American context, imagine that the Canadian Prime Minister demanded that the USA halt all construction of homes for non-Hispanics in New Mexico, Arizona, California and any other land won from Mexico during the Mexican War in 1848. That demand makes about as much sense as the one Obama made on Israel.

2) After making the ridiculous and racist demand that settlement construction stop, Obama then publicly insulted the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during his visit to Washington. Obama refused to discuss certain matters with Netanyahu and made the choice to walk out on the meeting with the Israeli. Obama made clear that he was angry at the Israeli position on settlements. Indeed, Obama threatened a major break with Israel in order to put on more pressure to get the Israelis to agree to a halt in "settlement" construction.

3) Obama became the first president to announce that the USA favored Israeli - Palestinian negotiations based upon the 1967 borders as a starting point. Once again, either Obama did not understand what he was saying (which I highly doubt), or Obama was intentionally sticking his finger into the eyes of the Israelis. Remember what the 1967 borders mean: a) Old Jerusalem, including all of the holiest sites in Judaism, would fall outside the state of Israel. b) Israel would be 8 miles wide at one point with every population center in the country within easy artillery range from the Palestinian state. Israel would be essentially impossible to defend against a well armed enemy who struck with surprise. c) Close to half a million Israelis would suddenly be outside the country.

The reason no American president had ever suggested returning to the 1967 borders is that they all knew that such a resolution could not work. Not even Jimmy Carter proposed such a thing. But Obama calls this "strong support" for Israel.

4) Since taking office, Obama has apologized to essentially every Arab country. In his Cairo speech in 2009, Obama embraced the Arabs, even though they have since basically spat in his face. Obama treated the Saudi king as a hero. He has refused to get involved in the "arab spring" type protests in the two countries that directly threaten Israel: Syria and Iran. Of course, Obama has gotten involved in the protests everywhere else; he helped to bring down Mubarak who kept the peace between Israel and Egypt. Obama also sent force to help topple Gaddafi in Libya for killing his own people, although Obama has done nothing while the Syrian regime of Assad has killed many multiples of the number that Gaddafi killed.

The truth is that it is a blatant lie for Obama to claim that he supported Israel ever. Obama is the most anti-Israel president in my lifetime. We are just watching another Obama big lie getting sent out through a compliant media.
