Syria -- the latest horror

Here are the first two paragraphs of a Reuters story today about Syria.

U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said he had received "grisly reports" that Syrian government forces were arbitrarily executing, imprisoning and torturing people in the battle-scarred city of Homs after rebel fighters had fled.

Ban's comments came as a wounded British photographer, who escaped Homs earlier this week, said he had witnessed Syrian troops carrying out a massacre in the city's Baba Amro district, which had become a symbol of a year-long uprising against President Bashar al-Assad.

It is hard to say anything more about this massacre. The Syrian regime is operating with the assistance of both the Iranians and apparently the Russians. The rest of the world is still observing the niceties. The death toll is approaching at least 10,000.

Obama is not even bothering to lead here from behind. Instead, he has chosen to campaign relentlessly and just let the Syrian people get slaughtered.
