I've mentioned Yahoo News before when talking about so-called news sites with a liberal slant. Today, however, Yahoo News outdid itself. Three polls were released today showing head to head matchups between president Obama and Mitt Romney or Rick Santorum. Rasmussen, which polls likely voters, found Romney ahead of Obama by 2% and Obama leading Santorum by 1%. Bloomberg, which also polls likely voters, found a tie between Romney an Obama but a 6% Obama lead over Santorum. Reuters, which only polls registered voters, found Obama leading Romney by 11% and Santorum by 10%. Even so, Yahoo News carried an article discussing how a new poll showed Obama was far ahead of Romney and Santorum. No mention was made of the other two polls released today. Just to be clear, Yahoo has no relationship with the Reuters poll. No, the Yahoo reporters decided only to report the poll with good news for Obama even though its methodology made it less reliable than the others.
Yahoo News also carried an article discussing how falling unemployment was cetered in swing states and how that would be helpful to Obama in November. The article actually claimed that a state with 9.6% unemployment last month would be a good target for Obama since things had been worse last year. Once again, the article did not address the question of whether or not having unemployment above 8% will be such a burden on the economy as to hurt Obama's chances for re-election.
I do not care whether or not Yahoo covers these subjects on their "news" page. Most items on Yahoo News deal with sport or entertainment celebrities or stories like the dog with two heads that does the tango. It does bother me, however, that the coverage there is so slanted towards good news for Obama that it borders on the dishonest.
