Using Ignorance as a Motivational Tool

In recent days, I have seen two different advertisement on my blog. The first asks folks to sign the petition to overturn the Citizens United decision by the Supreme Court which declared portions of the McCain Feingold law unconstitutional. The second ad was similar; it asked folks to sign a petition to overturn Roe v Wade, a decision in which the Supreme Court declared that women had an absolute constitutional right to an abortion during the first three months of a pregnancy, among other things. Both of these ads are ridiculous. No petition is going to change either of these points. The only way for someone other than the Court to modify these decisions would be to pass an amendment to the constitution, something that is not likely to happen. Despite this fact, groups are still out there seeking signatures for these petitions and, of course, contributions for the cause. I find it annoying that political groups raise hopes of change when they know that those hopes are more hype than hope.

Love your blog! I have to state that you are right about using a petition to change these laws, but I wanted to discuss the abortion law. Just because it was made law, doesn't mean it is a just law. The Supreme Court passed the law because they thought the baby inside the womb was not a person. Just like during slavery they did not consider the slave as a person, but chattel property.

So it seems that science can solve this issue. Is the baby in a womb, Human? Is it alive? If you answer yes, than it can not be the "property" of the mother and abortion is murder.
