The Essence of the Modern Democrats

Over the last few years, how many times have you read statements of outrage because some conservatives called president Obama's policies socialist or said that Obama himself is a socialist. It screams from the left over this description have been continuous and loud. The essence of the GOP criticism is that Obama has been adopting the programs promoted by european socialists, officials like the president of France, and recent prime ministers of Britain like Gordon Brown. The media quickly told us all that these cricisms were inappropriate; the word socialist was offensive and ought not be used in connection with Obama.

On the other hand, how many times in the last few years have we heard Demcrats describe Republicans as Nazis? Remember all those placards at Democrat events that said "Bush=Hitler"? How about Nancy Pelosi telling the press that she saw swastikas at tea party rallies? It did not matter that she was making it up; she said it and the media just let it slip by. Now the Obama campaign is getting into the act. The chairman of the California Democrat party called the GOP ticket Nazis over the weekend; he claimed they were purveyors of the big lie technique perfected by the Nazis. Now that is spreading. The Kansas delegates to the DNC are also quoted today as saying the same thing.

So where is the firestorm? Where is the media outrage? Where is there even one important Democrat calling for these people to resign their positions?

Todd Akin made a dumb statement about abortion and he was immediately called out for it by the Republicans. His statement was just dumb; he did not describe honorable Americans as genocidal and maniacal liars. No, that was left to the Democrats to accomplish.

You would think that the Democrats would understand just how inappropriate it is for them to call the GOP Nazis. That, of course, would require the Democrats to understand history. It would not take all that much understanding since the concept is extremely basic, but apparently it is all too much for the Democrats. Maybe they learned history from their allies in the teachers' unions.

I think that watching the convention this week will be much like trying to watch pond scum grow in a stagnant swamp.

UPDATE: Today also brings reports that nine hotels housing delegates to the DNC have had reports of bed bug infestations in the last year. In view of the environmental concerns of many at the convention, I have to wonder how, in good conscience, the delegates can stay at these hotels. After all, if the bugs bite them, the poor little insects might die of blood poisoning.
