The Power of Prevarication

The main stream media never fails to amaze me in their treatment of president Obama. They report lies and phony positions without question. The idea of actually digging for facts to report the truth about Obama's positions seems never to even cross their minds. Here are a few examples:

1) In 2010, when the Democrats had total control of both the House and the Senate, Obama pushed for continuation of the Bush tax rates for another two years. Obama told the country that although he had campaigned on the basis of raising taxes for those who make over $200,000, it was bad economic policy to raise taxes when the economy was weak. At that time, the growth rate in the GDP was 3.1% (figure is for fourth quarter of 2010). Today, Obama is pushing once again to raise taxes on those who make over $200,000 per year. The latest figures for economic growth show that last quarter the economy was growing at 1.7% which is only about half as fast as the slow growth rate of 2010. With the economy much weaker, Obama is now promoting a tax increase, the very action which he told us two years ago would hurt growth. Obama, of course, knows that the Republicans in the House will not accept this tax increase, and he uses that fact to bash Republicans as blocking his tax policy.

How many stories in the main stream media have you seen that discuss these facts? They are not difficult facts to uncover. Anyone who has paid attention over the last two years knows them full well. So why are there no stories in the media that call out Obama for his flip flop on taxes to a position that he told us just two years ago would damage the economy?

2. When he ran for president, Obama promised to cut the budget deficit in half by the end of his first term. Instead of cutting the deficit, however, Obama has run up the four largest annual deficits in American history. Even now, Obama has no plan to close the budget gap. The tax increases on the wealthy mentioned above would not even cut the budget deficit by 10%. So, how many stories have you seen in the main stream media discussing Obama's failure to close that budget gap? How many stories have you seen discussing the total lack of action on that front? Indeed, how many stories have you seen in the main stream media pointing out that the USA under Obama has not even adopted a budget for the last three years?

These are two critical issues. Tax policy and budgetary policies affect essentially every aspect of the government and of the American economy. There ought to be story after story on these subjects. But all that there is day after day is silence.
